What is an iButton?
iButtonŽ is a computer chip enclosed in a 6mm thick stainless steel can. Because of this unique small and durable container, the iButtonŽ can be mounted virtually anywhere because it is rugged enough to withstand harsh environments, indoors or outdoors. It is small and portable enough to attach to a key fob, ring, watch, or other personal items.
How does it work?
The ibuttonŽ operates is a 3 steps sequence:
1st step- Start Mission: At this stage the iButtonŽ is configured to measure temperature/humidity at a defined sample rate, and with an also defined initial delay (time it takes from the start of a mission to the first sample being taken).
2nd step- Logging period: During the logging period (mission running), the iButtonŽ measures and stores data in its internal memory. During this period the user has access to the data contained inside the logger, thus allowing the user to view/print the data for the current running mission without interfering in its course. During the mission period, the logger is autonomous and does not need to be connected to its host system.
3rd step- Stop mission/View results: At this point the user stops the current running mission. The user can now download the data to the host system.
